When the UN System works together to provide well coordinated, focused, and coherent response to the countrys priority development challenges, the impact it can have is greater than when UN agencies work alone in isolation. No single UN agency has the full range of skills, knowledge, and experience to tackle the multi-dimensional causes of poverty. Working together, the UN System can provide assistance to a wide range of issues, and can ensure that the support provided by each agency is complementary, rather than duplicative. The real benefit of UN coordination is therefore the increased impact of UN System support on reducing poverty. Other important benefits include the reduced transaction costs for Government; strengthened national capacity for monitoring impact on poverty reduction and other important national goals; and increased recognition by Governments and other partners of the potential strength of the UN System, when it works as a coherent whole.
In Bangladesh the UN country team (UNCT), consists of 10 UN agencies, funds and programmes convened under UN Resident Coordinator (RC). For information on individual UN Country team member, please scroll over the relevant link.
The UN Country Team (UNCT), comprising the heads of all resident agencies meet at regular intervals, under the chair of the UN Resident Coordinator. The Heads of Agency meeting would act as the Board of Directors for any common or shared facilities and services, being responsible for overall oversight and policy decisions.
Coordination mechanism is supported by the Office of the resident coordinator and other different theme groups
In response to the Government of Bangladesh Poverty Reduction Strategy, and following a joint assessment of the development needs (Common Country Assessment - CCA) in 2005, the Government of Bangladesh and the UN country team has agreed upon on 6 priority areas of co-operation in its UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2006-2010, where the UN can collectively make a difference and add real value to development and poverty reduction in Bangladesh.
